LIBERTY BANK FOUNDATION DONATES $3000 TO THE JONAH CENTER FOR EARTH AND ART

2/3/2010

The Jonah Center is partnering with Middletown’s North End Action Team (NEAT) to assist eligible families in applying for this cost-saving program. Free WRAP services are offered to households with incomes less than 60% of the state median.  The services include weatherizing homes by sealing air leaks, replacing broken windows, adding door sweeps, and also replacing inefficient appliances such as refrigerators, air-conditioners, and lighting fixtures at no cost to the residents.

“This program can help low-income families to conserve both energy and their hard-earned dollars,” said Sue Murphy, executive director of the Liberty Bank Foundation.  “We’re pleased to assist The Jonah Center in its efforts to acquire funding for such a worthwhile project.”

Since its inception in 1997, the Liberty Bank Foundation has provided over $5.5 million in grants to nonprofit organizations within Liberty Bank’s market area.  The Foundation seeks to improve the quality of life for people of low or moderate income by investing in the areas of preventive programming for children and families, affordable housing, and non-profit capacity building.  In addition, the foundation is providing support to address basic human needs during these difficult economic times.  Along with its grantmaking, the Foundation strives to foster the convening and collaboration of nonprofits, funders, business, and government to address community issues.

The Jonah Center is in the forefront of environmental education and advocacy efforts in the Greater Middletown area. Collaborating with other organizations, the Jonah Center works to inform residents of what we must do to protect our city’s natural resources and mobilize citizens, when necessary, to take action to foster a richer quality of life in our community.
